Cruise Captain: Needed
Build on last January's success and point your bow toward Blake Island for NYCE's first club cruise of the new year. January is a wonderful time to visit—quiet docks, open trails, crisp air, and plenty of room to enjoy the island together.
This will be a relaxed winter cruise with plenty of time for shoreside fires, shared food, hiking, visiting, and easy company. We'll have a few planned gatherings throughout the weekend while leaving lots of time to explore or simply enjoy being aboard.
Arrival & Moorage: Plan to arrive around 1:00 p.m. Friday, typically a good window between departing and arriving boats. Slips are first-come, first-served, and rafting is allowed. There is no water available on the docks.
Shore Power Available: The marina offers 30A outlets throughout the dock, so heaters, kettles, and other winter creature comforts are welcome.
Two Shelters With Fireplaces: Blake has two covered picnic shelters, each with a built-in fireplace. Please bring a small bundle of firewood—about 5–6 logs—if you can. A little from each boat should give us plenty for warm evening gatherings.
Relaxed Club-Cruise Format: We'll have planned NYCE gathering times, but the weekend is intentionally informal. Arrive, get settled, and enjoy Blake Island at your own pace. We'll coordinate as needed by text, VHF, and dockside hails.
Arrive and settle in during the afternoon.
1700 — Cocktails and heavy appetizers.
Weather will determine whether we gather on the dock, at one of the shelters, or aboard one or more boats.
Afterward, settle in for an evening of conversation, sea stories, and time around the fire.
0830 — Coffee on the dock, along with a few breakfast goodies.
Horseshoes if there is interest.
Spend the day hiking, kayaking, exploring, taking photographs, visiting other boats, or simply enjoying the island.
1700 — Club potluck supper, at a shelter or aboard depending on weather.
More conversation and sea stories around the fireplace if the firewood holds out.
0800 — Coffee on the pier.
Depart late morning or whenever you're ready for the trip home.
January on Blake Island can be wonderfully peaceful—shorebirds, quiet docks, open trails, and the feeling that we have much of the island to ourselves. Expect cozy fires, warm drinks, shared meals, impromptu snacks, and plenty of time to wander.
Come by boat, bring something to share, toss a few logs aboard, and join your fellow NYCE members for a winter weekend at Blake Island.
